Helicopters are a marvel of engineering and testament to the creativity of man. They cost more to run than a fixed-wing aircraft and cost more to buy, which is why they cost more for a trial lesson. It’s typically twice the price to learn to fly helicopters than fixed-wing aircraft.
Oh, but what a feeling they give you! Everyone who we know who has had a helicopter lesson leaves with the biggest grin and the intention of doing it again.
It’s not easy to master flying helicopters – the challenge of the perfect hover continually entices people back! That’s what we want you to do – to come back and learn to fly.
Your instructor will get you to follow through the control inputs and help you to understand how they affect flight. Be gentle and smooth. That’s the key.
In your lesson, you’ll learn how to hover and fly the aircraft – don’t worry if you don’t get the hang of it first time. Remember what you are there to do, to find out if this is something that you would like to continue with. So relax and enjoy your introduction to helicopters and indulge in the knowledge that you’re one of the lucky few to fly a helicopter – it’s only been possible for 40 years.
